Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah Commemorates 150th Birth Anniversary of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo

Jeddah, 24 March 2019– The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah on 21 March 2019 commemorated the 150th Birth Anniversary of General Emilio Aguinaldo.

The Emilio Aguinaldo Day included a lecture on the life of Gen. Aguinaldo by Vice-Consul Alfred Kristoffer Guiang, a showing of the film “El Presidente,” a historical biopic film based on the life of Gen. Aguinaldo, and essay-writing and extemporaneous speaking contests participated in by students from four (4) Philippine schools in Jeddah, namely, the Al Dura International School Jeddah, Bader International School Jeddah, Durat Al Sharq International School Jeddah, and International Philippine School Jeddah.

In her brief opening remarks, Consul Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the celebration of Emilio Aguinaldo Day is a reminder of the heroism as well as sacrifices made by Gen. Aguinaldo for the Philippines to gain independence from the Spanish and American colonizers. She said that heroism comes in different forms, and the youth can do their share by being responsible members of the family and the community.

The celebration of the sesquicentennial of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo is in line with Proclamation No. 621, which declares March 22, 2019 as Emilio Aguinaldo Day. –END-
