Jeddah, 31 Jan 2019 – Legislators from Mindanao led by Congresswoman Bai Sandra Sema made an investment pitch to members of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce (JCCI) and Industries in a meeting held at the JCCI headquarters in Jeddah on 30 January 2019. Congresswoman Sema was accompanied by Reps Mauyag Papandayan, Jr., Ruby Sahali, Macmod Mending, Jr., Amihilda Sangcopan, and Shernee Tan.

In brief opening remarks, Congressman Sema said that with the recent passage of the Bangsamoro Islamic Law, now is the best time to invest in the Mindanao. She made a general appeal to the members of the JCCI “to help your Muslim brothers in Mindanao get out poverty through your investments.”

During the meeting, the legislators presented investment proposals on rebuilding and expanding several hospitals in Marawi City, cacao plantation and processing, seaweed planting and processing, and exploration, development, and production of oil and gas reserves in the Sulu Sea. Highlighting Mindanao’s abundant natural resources, they invited the members of the JCCI to invest in Mindanao and help spur the development of the region.

Speaking on behalf of the Chamber, JCCI Deputy Chairman Ziad Al Bassad thanked the Philippine congressional delegation for their presentations. He said that the meeting is “a good opportunity for more direct business-to-business contacts between Saudi businessmen and investors and potential Filipino partners.” He recommended that the Philippine legislators continue seeking out potential Saudi investors with the assistance of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah.

Consul General Edgar Badajos thanked for the JCCI for the opportunity given to the Philippine legislators to make an investment pitch. He expressed the hope that members of the JCCI “will find it in their hearts to invest in Mindanao for the benefit of our Muslim brothers.”

JCCI is one of the oldest business chambers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia having been founded in 1946. END
