PHILIPPINE CONSULATE AND POLO OFFICIALS IN JEDDAH MEET WITH SAUDI LABOR OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS LABOR PROBLEMS OF FILIPINO WORKERS

Jeddah, 19 April 2018 – Representatives from the Philippine Consulate and POLO Office in Jeddah met with officials of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development (Makkah Region branch) to discuss ways on how to effectively address labor problems involving Filipino workers. The Consulate was represented by Consul Rodney Jonas L. Sumague, Welfare Officer James Mendiola and Translator Sarah Kurshid. The labor officials were represented by Mr. Sultan Al-Harbi, Director of the Crisis Department; and Zaky Al Mohamady, Director of the Labor Office Kandarah Branch.

Consul Sumague and Welfare Officer Mendiola conveyed to the Saudi labor officials the present labor concerns of Filipino workers, including the delayed salaries and repatriation of workers in big construction companies. The Saudi labor officials assured Consul Sumague and Welfare Officer Mendiola that they will help. The two sides also agreed to strengthen the lines of communications between the Consulate and the Labor office. Information needed by the labor office to immediately act on critical cases were identified. The Saudi labor officials gave assurance that they are committed to helping the Consulate resolve the labor problems of Filipino workers. END
