PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL EXPRESSES SUPPORT TO NEW ASEAN ENGINEERS
Jeddah, 08 April 2018 – The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP)-Western Region Chapter hosted the first ASEAN Engineers Special Conferment for Engineers in the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the auspices of the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) at the La Parilla Restaurant in Jeddah on 07 April 2018.

Nine (9) members of the IECEP and seven (7) members of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE)-Western Region Chapter were recognized as ASEAN Engineers during the special conferment. Engr. Federico Monsada, PTC President, and Engr. Romulo Agatep, Country Registrar of PTC, led the awarding of the medals and certificates for the new ASEAN engineers. The conferees will be eligible to work in the 10 ASEAN member states. Consul Rodney Jonas L. Sumague represented the Philippine Consulate General during the special conferment.
During the courtesy call of the new ASEAN Engineers on 08 April, Consul General Edgar Badajos congratulated the engineers for their achievement and urged them to continue to elevate the professionalism and competency of Filipino engineers in the Kingdom. “Filipino engineers and other professionals need constant retooling to be up to date with new developments and keep their competitive edge” Consul General Edgar Badajos said.

The conferment of the ASEAN Engineer title is in line with the ASEAN economic integration. It is part of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Engineering Services which was signed on 09 December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur by the ASEAN Economic Ministers. The PTC serves as the Philippine National Monitoring Committee which screens and submits applications of Filipino engineers to be recognized as ASEAN engineers to the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO) for approval.
