PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN JEDDAH REPATRIATES SICK OFW WITH HELP FROM THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY AND SAUDI EMPLOYER

Jeddah, 26 March 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah facilitated the repatriation of a Filipina Household worker from Sultan Kudarat who is suffering from a congenital heart disease on 22 March 2018. The Consulate successfully repatriated the OFW with the help of the Filipino community in Jeddah and the benevolence of the Saudi employer. The employer of the worker, a Saudi police official, earlier approached the Consulate General, requesting assistance to find someone who can assist the household worker for her flight to the Philippines. The Saudi police official also offered to pay for the plane ticket of the person who will accompany the household worker.

The household worker arrived in the Kingdom only on 04 February 2018. However, after four (4) days, she felt dizzy and collapsed. She was hospitalized for nine (9) days at the King Fahad hospital. It was found out that she had a congenital heart disease and cannot continue to work as a household worker.

The Consulate General contacted the Filipino community to request for volunteers to accompany the household worker. The employer coordinated with Saudi Arabian airlines to facilitate the preparation of an oxygen tank for the flight of the household worker as recommended by the doctor.

Consul General Edgar Badajos thanked the employer and the Filipino volunteers for their effort. “It is truly heart warming that some Saudi employers and the Filipino community are working hand in hand with the Consulate to address the concerns of our nationals. This makes our jobs at the Consulate easier,” said Consul General Badajos.

A Filipina medical technologist from King Abdulaziz University Hospital accompanied the household worker during her flight on 22 March 2018 via Saudi Arabian Airline flight SV 872. The Consulate and the employer assisted them at the airport during the flight. They arrived in the Philippines on 23 March 2018. END
