PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN JEDDAH RENDERS MOBILE CONSULAR SERVICES IN SOUTHWEST ARABIA; FINDS INSPIRING STORIES OF SUCCESSFUL OFWs

(Jeddah, 25 March 2018) – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah successfully rendered a full range of services to Filipinos in the Jizan Province of Saudi Arabia during its 3rd Consular Mobile Services (CMS) in 2018 at the Adnan Hotel in Gazan, Jizan on 23 - 24 March 2018.

The CMS team, led by Consul General Edgar B. Badajos, included representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), PAG-IBIG and Social Security Services (SSS).

In the course of the two (2) day event, the Consular Team brought passport, civil registration, authentication, and notarial services closer to the people of Jizan and the neighboring areas. The distance from Jizan to Jeddah poses a challenge to Filipinos who reside in the area. Travel is also costly. This heightens the need to bring Consulate services to them. Also part of the services rendered was the registration of new overseas voters in preparation for the 2019 national elections.

The Consulate introduced the information campaign component of the CMS where important information and reminders were shared with all the applicants present. Everyone was reminded to update their memberships in OWWA, Pag-ibig, and SSS so that they can avail of the various benefits and services that are available to active members. The important contact details of the Consulate were likewise disseminated during the program.

The CMS is one of the avenues for the Consulate to forge stronger and closer relationship with the Filipinos in the western region of Saudi Arabia. Consul General Badajos was able to interact with the applicants during the event and he personally heard their stories of struggles and triumphs as overseas Filipino workers. One of the striking stories shared was that of Ms. Rosie Pulido Camacho, a reliable supporter of the Consulate, who has been in Saudi for twenty (20) years. According to Rosie, the secret for surviving and overcoming the challenges of living in Saudi is determination, taking care of yourself and your health, and observing the laws, rules, and regulations of the Saudi government. Consul General Badajos also met Jermilyn of Concepion, Tarlac, who teaches Saudi undergraduate nursing students at a local university. Their stories show that all is not gloom and doom for OFWs in Saudi Arabia. The Consulate intends to continue these conversations with individual OFWs in future missions so that their inspiring life stories can be shared with other Filipinos who are also hoping to come and work in the Kingdom someday.

The next CMS will be on 29 – 31 March 2018 at the Mushayt Palace Hotel in Khamis Mushayt, Assir Region. Those who wish to join may contact Mr.Vher Crisostomo through +966 53 098 5194 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. END
