Press Release No. 11-2017

(Jeddah, 17 July 2017) Students from the Durat Al Sharq International School (DASIS) in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made heart-warming letters and colorful postcards for our soldiers who are currently deployed in Marawi City. This effort is in response to the Philippine Army’s #OgopMarawi (“Help Marawi”) drive which aims to aid the internally displaced people of Marawi City and boost the morale of soldiers in Marawi City who have put their lives on the line to keep all of us safe.

Consul General to Jeddah Imelda M. Panolong received from DASIS Principal Denver Lopez Two Hundred Seventy-six (276) letters and postcards made by the students from the primary to high school levels. Consul General Panolong thanked Principal Lopez for encouraging their students to take part in the campaign, and for their overwhelming response. She also expressed her admiration to the wonderful “artworks” of the students and their touching messages of hope, peace, gratitude and recognition for the sacrifices of the men and women in uniform.

“I will always pray for you and your family’s safety. We’re so proud of you for serving the country and the people.  I know that your work isn’t easy but what you’re doing for us and the country is really amazing and courageous!  With this I really thank your dedication, sacrifice and hard work...God bless you”a very inspiring message from Christel Macapagal, a Grade 10 student.

“Thank you for protecting the people of our nation.  It must’ve been hard to lose your comrades in this gruesome battle, I sympathize with you.  We Filipinos can’t thank you enough, soldiers. Please protect the remaining parts of Marawi that has some people in it.  I know it’s hard, but please win this battle for us….Just a little more, and you’ll be back home, safe and sound. ..You guys are heroes”…says Margareth Obras, a high school student.

“Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and bravery. We appreciate your selfless service and we’ll pray for your safe return.”-  are the messages from most of the elementary students.

Simple and sincere messages include, “Thank You, stay strong po”, “Salamat sa Serbisyo”, “Thank you, soldiers”, and “You are My Hero.” Other postcards expressed the students’ aspiration for Marawi and its residents and sent messages like “Bangon, Marawi” and “Pray for Marawi.”

These letters and postcards will be sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Manila, which will in turn be turned over to the Philippine Army to be delivered to the soldiers who are fighting in Marawi.
