(01 March 2017, Jeddah) –The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah participated in the Annual International Day on 25 February 2017 and presented the rich and diverse culture of the Philippines to more than a thousand attendees.
Organized by the American International School in Jeddah, the event aimed to showcase the uniqueness of different cultures and celebrate their diversity and harmony. Held at the school premises, the event was attended by around 3,000 people. Aside from the Philippine Consulate General, there were more than a dozen other Consulates in Jeddah that participated in the event with its stalls decked in rich colors, showcasing their traditional attires, cuisines and music.
The AISJ grounds was packed well with various activities such as Consulate passport stamping activity where children dressed in traditional attires had the opportunity to pick the passport and visit each country’s booth to learn about them, face and henna paintings, raffle draws and cultural activities. The audience also enjoyed an afternoon of food, games and dance from around the world.
This is the fourth time that the Consulate has participated in the festival. As always, the Philippines was among the favorites of the crowd. At the Philippine booth, the public learned more about the beautiful top tourist attractions in the country such as Palawan, Zamboanga, Davao, Boracay, Camarines Sur and Baler. There were also information about the country’s history, people’s customs and traditions. Aside from learning more interesting things about the country, the public were treated with traditional food/delicacies that include butchi, pancit, kutchinta and puto. The audience also enjoyed the beautiful array of Philippine handicraft displayed at the booth. The event was also an opportune time for some Filipino employees of the AISJ to contribute in the design, setting up and manning of the Philippine booth, which reflected not only the inherent Filipino talent in them, but also highlighted the Philippine’s colorful and rich culture, and the “Bayahinan spirit.” END.
