(15 June 2016, Jeddah) – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah organized a bowling activity on 04 June 2016 at the Jeddah Lanes Bowling Center, Mosadia, Madina Road, in commemoration of the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
Dubbed as “Kalayaan Bowling Fun Game 2016”, the activity was exclusively participated in by the officers and staff of the Consulate, including the attached agencies (POLO-OWWA, SSS, Pag-IBIG, DSWD, and PTIC) and their dependents. The activity was intended to promote camaraderie, unity, friendship and physical fitness among the members of the Consulate General.
Philippine Consul General Hon. Imelda M. Panolong, in her remarks, underscored the need to conduct physical activities such as bowling to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Consul General Panolong added that it is important that everyone in the office is active, happy and healthy for the service of the nation and for the service of the overseas Filipinos.
The Yellow team composed of Mr. Diosdado Abarra (Communications Officer and Team Captain), Asst. Labor Attache Rosario Mangahas, Mr. Nilo Buenaseda (Collecting Officer) and Ms. Amera Langco (spouse of Mr. Abdul Halim Langco), bested thirteen other teams and bagged the championship. Trophies, medals and other items were awarded to the Top 5 teams, Top 2 Men bowlers and Top 2 Women bowlers.
This is the first-ever bowling tournament held under the auspices of Consul General Imelda M. Panolong. During the event, she announced that the Consulate will purchase additional sports and fitness equipment as it intends to conduct regular sports activities throughout the year for its personnel and their dependents.
