20 April 2016, Jeddah PCG – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah welcomed Dr. Marylendra Aduviso Penetrante (Director/Founder/Case Manager of Children and Youth Wellness Technical and Advocacy Center, Legaspi City) and Mrs. Florelyn  Deseo-Felicisimo (OIC Senior Sales Manager of C&E Publishing Inc., Quezon City), who came to Jeddah to conduct an enhancement training-seminar for faculty members from the different Philippine curriculum schools in the Kingdom.

In line with its objective to provide quality education and to produce competitive Filipino students, the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ) invited Dr. Penetrante and Mrs. Felicisimo to give an enhancement training/seminar on 28 March 2016 at the school’s premises. 155 attendees from seven (7) Philippine schools in the Kingdom, namely: Al Dura (Gems) International School (10); Durat Al Sharq International School (7); Bader International School (7); International Philippine School in Al-Khobar (2); Future Generation International School-Riyadh (3); Al Jazeera International School (3); IPSJ’s teachers (95) and IPSJ’s Board members and support staff (27), participated in the whole day seminar.

Equipped with special practice and professional experiences, Dr. Penetrante talked about “Establishing an Effective Special Education Program for Students in Regular Schools: An introductory Course for School Administrators and SPED Coordinators”. The highlight of the program included the following topics: The Challenging Faces of Learners in Regular School (Theme 1); Special Education in Regular School (Theme 2), and Special Features of Effective SPED Program for Students in Regular Schools (Theme 3). The seminar ended with a plenary consultation and questions and was culminated by the awarding of certificates to the participants. Mrs. Felicisimo assisted Dr. Penetrante during the activity.

Dr. Penetrante, who is a license professional teacher, is a recipient of numerous awards, citation and grants which include the 2013 ASEAN International Community Advocate International Award given by ASEAN Regional Community Welfare Advocates in Jakata, Indonesia; Estefania Aldaba Lim Outstanding National Award for Psychological Services given in August 2012, Cebu City, by the Psychological Association of the Philippines to a psychologist making great contribution in the country, and was also identified as one of the achievers/outstanding 50 psychologists in the Philippines in 2013 Psychological Association of the Philippines 50th Anniversary Book entitled: Milestones, Inspirations & Aspirations.

Accompanied by the IPSJ’s management, Dr. Penetrante and Ms. Felicisimo paid a courtesy call on Consul General Imelda M. Panolong at her office, wherein she commended IPSJ’s initiative of conducting educational training for Filipino teachers that would help improve their teaching skills and technique.  Consul General Panolong also added that there truly is a need to strengthen the capacity of the teachers in the field of special education in view of the lack of expertise among the current group of teachers in this specialized area.  The need becomes ever more pronounced because of the presence of special needs children who are already enrolled in the Philippine schools. END.
