2015 National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week

 

28 July 2015 - The Philippine Consulate in Jeddah commemorated the 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week at its premises on 22 and 23 July 2015. 

 

Consistent with the theme of the event “Health and Wellness Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Toward an Inclusive Development for All”, the Consulate has uploaded at its website the event’s logo and played at the Consular Section (processing and releasing areas) compiled videos about the amazing story of Jessica Cox, a Filipino-American disability activist who was born without arms as a result of a rare birth defect.  The videos showed how Jessica Cox was able to overcome adversity by using her feet. She showed everyone that even the most severe physical limitations could not stop her from becoming or doing what she wants.

The celebration is in accordance with the Proclamation No. 361 issued by then President Joseph Ejercito Estrada on 19 August 2000 declaring the third week of July as the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week which shall culminate on the birthdate of the sublime paralytic, Apolinario Mabini on 23 July. As part of the celebration, the Consulate has distributed to passport applicants the special bookmarks featuring Mabini as the sublime mind of the First Republic and the First Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
