Philippine Consulate Jeddah holds Lecture Session and Film Showing on
Gender and Development  (GAD) Awareness

 

19 October 2014 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah held recently a Gender and Development (GAD) Awareness Lecture Session and Film Showing for the benefit of 76 distressed women-attendees, who are under the care of the Consulate’s Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC). GAD- Consul Ausan talk

The lecture entitled “Gender as a Social Contract” was delivered by newly-arrived Department of Social Welfare and Administration’s (DSWD) Welfare Officer, Josephine A. Arang. Related activities were held thereafter to further fortify the understanding of the attendees of the lectured topic. These were:

  • Activity 1 -  Word Association Exercise: In this activity, the clean distinction between words like “sex”, “gender” and “sexual orientation” was clarified and drawn;
  • Activity 2 – Short Animated Film-Showing of “Impossible Dream”: After the 7-minute film, the possibility of living and having a better life in which the  husband and wife share and help each other in many of respects was discussed; and
  • Activity 3 – Full Featured Film Showing of “Born To Love You”; After the film, gender issues depicted in the story were briefly discussed.

After the lecture, the attendees were requested to evaluate the activity on the basis of what they learned from it and how they feel after having been clarified on issues concerning gender and development, which impact on them. A big majority rated their experience with a “yellow smiley emoticons” that underline their satisfaction with the activity. The Consulate will have another GAD activity on violence against women in November. end.
