New Philippine Consul General in Jeddah Pledges Stronger Partnership with OFWs
Jeddah, 28 April 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah hosted over one hundred (100) Filipino community leaders on 28 April 2025 at Assila Hotel, where the new Philippine Consul General, Rommel Romato, announced new initiatives aimed at strengthening support for overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) across the Kingdom.
Consul General Romato introduced the Consulate team and reaffirmed the Philippine government’s unwavering commitment to OFW welfare.
Highlighting key programs under Bagong Pilipinas, Consul General Romato detailed efforts to enhance OFW protections, expand health and welfare services, engage local legal services, assist OFW dependents, provide burial support, and improve overseas voting, among others. “This townhall embodies our deepened dedication to the overseas Filipino community,” Consul General Romato affirmed.
The dialogue with community leaders also discussed contingency plans for the security and safety of the overseas Filipino community. The discussion constructively addressed urgent concerns such as the immediate burial of Filipino Muslim workers, educational access for OFW children, and support for returning Filipino professionals. The Consulate General pledged to collaborate closely with the OFW community and the national government to resolve these pressing issues. END
