Jeddah PCG Unveiled a Dedicated Filipino Bookshelf at Jarir Bookstore, in celebration of Filipino Literature Month 2025

JEDDAH, 29 April 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in celebration of April 2025 as Philippine Literature Month, organized an activity entitled, “Voices of the Archipelago: A Journey through Philippine Literature” in partnership with Jarir Bookstore (JB).
Highlights of the event include the unveiling of a dedicated Filipino bookshelf featuring a collection of Filipino books and audiovisual materials available in its showroom. The selection included Filipino classics such as Noli me Tangere, El Filibusterismo, and Filipino language dictionaries, to name a few.

An intermission number from students of the International Philippine School in Jeddah also delighted guests and bookstore patrons with a fable performance and a dance number.

This delightful performance of students was followed by a book reading session led by Consul General Rommel A. Romato, who read “Bayan ng Basura” (Garbage Town), a children’s book published by Adarna House.

The bookstore was represented by Mr. Samer Gari, Area Manager for the Western Region of Jarir Bookstore, and Mr. Fuhaid Bin Fuhaid, Showroom Manager of the Sari Branch during the event.
The activity was conceptualized to instill the importance and joy of reading to children. The activity was attended by 45 children aged seven to ten years old, all composed of students from the International Philippine School in Jeddah and dependent children of the resident wards of Bahay Kalinga.

The dedicated Filipino bookshelf will be available in three other Jarir Bookstore showrooms in Jeddah (al-Andalus), Al Khobar (Corniche), and in Riyadh (Plaza) until 29 May 2025.
