JEDDAH PCG CONDUCTS BAGONG PILIPINAS TOWN HALL MEETING AND INFORMATION CARAVAN FOR THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN JEDDAH
23 May 2024, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) conducted a Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting and Information Caravan for the Overseas Filipino Community in Jeddah on 22 May 2024 at the Jeddah PCG Social Hall.
With the theme “Bagong Pilipinas: Philippines Beyond Borders. Towards an Inclusive and Progressive Nation,” the town hall meeting aims to educate the Filipino community in Jeddah on the Bagong Pilipinas framework of the government, as well as provide updates on the services of the Consulate and its attached agencies. Topics discussed during the activity were the following:
- Bagong Pilipinas and its relevance to the overseas Filipino community;
- Briefing on the forthcoming Independence Day celebration;
- Updates on consular matters and Overseas Voting and Registration;
- Backgrounder on Post’s Contingency Plan;
- Overview of Post’s Notional Calendar of Activities for July-December 2024;
- Updates on relevant labor and ATN matters;
- Services provided by the Social Security System; and
- Updates on the 2024 hajj pilgrimage.
An open forum followed after the talks, where the participants raised questions on several topics, which was sufficiently answered by the panel composed of Post’s officers and heads of attached agencies.
The activity was attended by around 45 Filipinos based in Jeddah, composed of representatives from various organizations, such as the OFW Council of Leaders (OCL), an umbrella group of various FilCom organizations in Jeddah; as well as officers and members of the Philippine Professional Organization-Western Region of Saudi Arabia (PPO-WRSA).
The town hall meeting was the fourth in the series of Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meetings and Information Caravans conducted by the Consulate this year, with the others held in Khamis Mushayt, Tabuk, and Taif City-- major cities in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia with a high concentration of Filipinos. The town hall meeting was also streamed live on the Consulate’s official Facebook page, with its recording to be posted on the same page for ready access by the public.
Jeddah PCG will continue its initiative of educating the Filipino community in Jeddah and the Western Region on the various programs, projects and activities of the government, the Consulate, and its attached agencies; and will continue its dynamic collaboration with the Filipino community in Jeddah and the Western Region of Saudi Arabia in support of the goals of the Bagong Pilipinas. – END-
