JEDDAH PCG HOLDS WEBINAR ON PERSPECTIVES AND COMMUNITY-BASED CAMPAIGNS AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (VAW)

13 December 2023, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG), in observance of the 18-Day Nationwide Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) held on 5 December 2023 a webinar entitled, “Violence Against Women: Perspectives and Community-Based Campaigns Against VAW”. Resource speaker at the webinar was Dr. Ma. Aurora Lolita Liwag-Lomibao, Associate Dean of the College of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

Dr. Lomiboa discussed different perspectives on the incidence of VAW in different communities, and how the advocacy to curb and completely eradicate VAW may be made more effective through strategically-constructed and designed community-based campaigns. She also tackled ways to make VAW campaigns more impactful, through effective message-crafting for the target audience.  

Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, in his opening message at the webinar, said that while VAW is a persistent problem faced even during the earlier times up to the present era by different soceites, there are still ways to rally the support of the public to help stop the incidence of VAW in our communities.

“Nawa’y makatulong ang webinar na ito sa pagbubukas ng kamalayan ng ating mga kababayan sa End-VAW campaign na nararapat na isulong ng bawat Pilipino saan man panig ng mundo. Napapanahon na din na tayo ay aktibong makibahagi sa kampanya para tuluyan na nga nating mapuksa ang VAW, at gawing ligtas na espasyo ang ating lipunan para sa lahat ng kababaihan,” Consul General Auxilian said.

The webinar was one of the activities organized by the Consulate in observance of the 18-Day End VAW Campaign. This year’s VAW-Free campaign has the theme “UNiTEd for a VAW-Free Philippines. – END
