The officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) and the attached agencies, MWO-OWWA and the Office of the Hajj Attaché, organized a brief and solemn flag-raising ceremony commemorating National Flag Day on 28 May 2023. The ceremony featured performances from students of the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ).
The Philippine National Flag Day commemorates the day when the Philippine flag was unfurled for the first time in Alapan, Cavite, where Filipino revolutionary troops engaged and defeated Spanish colonial troops on 28 May 1898. Recognizing this pivotal event in Philippine history, President Diosdado Macapagal signed Presidential Proclamation No. 374 on March 6, 1965 declaring May 28 of each year as National Flag Day. Executive Order No. 179, signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on 24 May 1994, extended the period of celebrating the National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12. END
