Jeddah PCG Sends Off Four (4) Filipino Evacuees from Port Sudan
Jeddah, KSA, 06 May 2023 – The Assistance-to-Nationals Section of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) led by Vice Consul Jeremiah Attento, together with the Migrant Workers Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA) in Jeddah led by ALA Solaiman Mutia, assisted the four (4) OF evacuees from Port Sudan who arrived in Jeddah on 04 May 2023, during their departure early this morning at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport.
The 3 male OFs were departing for Manila via Saudia Airlines. They are expected to arrive in Manila at 2045hrs, Philippine time, later today. The lone female OF who arrived with them also left for Doha, Qatar where she is presently working.
The four (4) evacuees thanked Jeddah PCG and POLO-OWWA for their assistance during their transit in Jeddah. Aside from the port assistance, Jeddah PCG, through the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Fund, shouldered the plane tickets of the three male evacuees for their repatriation to the Philippines. Meanwhile, the female evacuee booked her own ticket to Doha.
As of today, fifty-three (53) Filipino nationals have been evacuated from Port Sudan through Jeddah port: forty-four (44) have already been repatriated to the Philippines, six (6) stayed in the Kingdom and three (3) proceeded to other countries to join their employers. About ninety (90) more are either in Port Sudan or still in Khartoum awaiting evacuation.
Jeddah PCG continues to work with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt (Cairo PE) for the evacuation of more Filipino nationals trapped in Khartoum, Sudan. Cairo PE is arranging buses to ferry Filipino nationals from Khartoum to Port Sudan whereas Jeddah PCG is coordinating with the Saudi Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for the inclusion of these Filipino nationals to the almost daily trips arranged by Saudi to evacuate their nationals and nationals of friendly nations from conflict-ridden Sudan. - END
