Jeddah PCG receives new 17 Filipino Evacuees from Port Sudan

Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 02 May 2023. – The Jeddah Team welcomed another group of 17 Filipino evacuees from Port Sudan late afternoon of 01 May 2023. Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian met them during their arrival at King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah at around 5:00 in the afternoon. They, together with hundreds of other foreign nationals, were evacuated from Port Sudan to Jeddah by Royal Saudi Naval Forces ship, His Majesty the King-Abha.

The group of OFWs is composed of one female and 16 males, mostly skilled workers employed by various companies in the capital city, Khartoum. They managed to escape from Khartoum through the help of their companies which arranged their transportation to Port Sudan.

One of the Filipino evacuees suffered a mild stroke just a week before the outbreak of civil unrest and bombings in Sudan. Although he can still manage to walk as only his right arm is partly paralyzed.

After their arrival at the naval port, they were brought to the Customs and Immigration Quarantine (CIQ) clearance at the Jeddah Islamic Port where they were assisted by the Jeddah PCG Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) personnel led by Vice Consul Kristal Mary Padon Rabanal.

The Jeddah PCG team also assisted them during their checking in at a hotel in Jeddah, courtesy of the Saudi Government, where they will stay until their return flight to the Philippines.

As of writing, there were already forty-nine (49) Filipino evacuees who arrived at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, most have already been repatriated to the Philippines and some joined their employers. There are more left in Port Sudan awaiting for stamping of their exit visas so they can join the evacuation efforts of the Saudi Government. The Philippine Consulate is in contact with about sixty-four of these OFs to closely monitor their status and whereabouts.
