Jeddah PCG showcases Filipino arts and culture through the music and dances of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (MINSUPALA)
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 20 March 2023 - The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) held on 16 March 2023 a cultural activity called “Hiraya Minsupala”, showcasing the different music and dances of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. The activity, which was held at the Philippine Consulate grounds, included traditional performances from the different indigenous groups in the Philippines, particularly those in Mindanao.
Among the traditional performance arts featured were the Kapagapir Dance, Kinikini Kalilang Dance, Gabbang sa Sulu, Darangun with Kinikini, and Kulintang exhibition, among others.
In his message, Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian said that the activity was a tribute to both Philippine arts and culture as seen in the arts of the region and provinces of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. “There is no better way to promote Philippine arts and culture by revisiting the traditional arts of the different areas in the Philippines, which form part our identity as a people. And for the forthcoming Holy Month of Ramadan, we celebrate through this activity the rich, colorful, and solemn performances and rituals/rites of the Muslim Filipinos,” Consul General Auxilian added.
Various delicacies from Mindanao were also served at the event. The “Hiraya Minsupala” is a project of Jeddah PCG and the Sentro Rizal-Jeddah, in partnership with the Royal Rajahnate and Datuship of Minsupala, a social and cultural Filipino community organization in Jeddah. – END–
