PR No. ETA-46-2022
Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian (center, in a barong Tagalog) together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chief of Protocol Adnan Murad (beside Consul General Auxilian, in traditional Arab garb), Mr. Fahrid Al-Khazim, and members of the consular corps and Kulay Philippines.
The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) celebrated the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines and Saudi Arabia diplomatic relations with a reception and a photography exhibit titled A Fusion of Cultures, Season 2. Organized in collaboration with Kulay Philippine Photographers Community in Saudi Arabia, the photo exhibit features some of the popular landmarks and tourist attractions in the Philippines and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as important activities and events of Jeddah PCG.
In his welcoming remarks, Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian stated, “This event is a celebration in itself: the first in three (3) years ever since the pandemic in 2020 has begun. The opportunities and lessons we have obtained and learned in the past three years will pave the way forward to the betterment of relations between the two countries.”
The Philippines and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on 24 October 1969. The Philippines opened its first Mission in Jeddah on 23 December 1973. In July 1985, the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia was transferred to Riyadh pursuant to a royal decree issued on 29 September 1983 requiring all diplomatic missions in the Kingdom to move from Jeddah to Riyadh. Saudi Arabia opened an Embassy in Manila in 1974.
The photo exhibit will run until 12 November 2022 at the Community Hall of the Philippine Consulate General, and is open for public viewing from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. END
