Jeddah PCG, UST hold webinar on the role of the family and the community in teaching language and culture, in celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2022
Jeddah, 1 September 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Education and the UST-Sentro sa Salin at Araling Salin held on 31 August 2022 a webinar on the Filipino language and the role of the family and community in teaching Filipino language/s, culture, and identity, in celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa this year. The webinar was held via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Asst. Prof. Alvin Ringgo Reyes of UST served as resource speaker at the webinar titled “Banyuhay 2022: Ang Tahanan at Pamayanan Bilang Mga Tagapagturo ng Wika, Kultura, at Salin.” He discussed the importance of collaboration between the home, school, and community in the transfer of knowledge, language and culture to students particularly those in the diaspora. Mr. Reyes also gave sample activities for schools in integrating the collaboration and triangulation of home-school-community in a more meaningful learning experience of Filipino students.
Dr. Rosalyn Mirasol of UST and Ms. Loreta Laririt of the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ) served as reactors to the presentation of Prof. Reyes.
The webinar was participated in by Filipino teachers of Philippine schools in Jeddah, such as the Durat Al Sharq International School (DASIS), and IPSJ. Teachers from institutions in the Philippines were also in attendance at the webinars. Members of the Philippine International Schools Teachers’ Association (PISTA), a professional organization for teachers in Jeddah and the Western Region of Saudi Arabia, also joined the online activities.
This year’s Buwan ng Wika theme is: “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Kasangkapan sa Pagtuklas at Paglikha.” -END-
