JEDDAH PCG TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL LITERATURE MONTH WITH WEBINAR SERIES

20 April 2022, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah joins the whole Filipino community in celebrating National Literature Month or Buwan ng Panitikang Filipino with a series of activities to help deepen the Filipino community’s love for Philippine literature which has continued to shape Philippine history and Filipino consciousness.

Among the activities lined up by the Consulate are a series of online lectures/ webinars on Philippine literature and creative writing with some of the most celebrated award-winning Filipino writers and experts in the field of Philippine literature invited as resource speakers.

With the theme “Muling Pagtuklas sa Karunungang Bayan” (Rediscovering Filipino Folk Wisdom), the Buwan ng Panitikan 2022 celebration focuses on encouraging the revitalization and interest of contemporary generation with folklore, folk literature, folklife and ways especially the folk  stories and folk knowledge in all shapes and shades.Among the activities lined up by the Consulate are a series of online lectures/ webinars on Philippine literature and creative writing with some of the most celebrated award-winning Filipino writers and experts in the field of Philippine literature invited as resource speakers.

Following are the online activities organized by Jeddah PCG:

  • Day 1: 24 April 2022 (Sunday), 3:00 P.M. Jeddah time/ 8:00 P.M. Philippine Standard time

“Mga Dila ng Apoy: Nag-aalab na mga Diwa at Damdamin sa Panulaang Filipino”

Panelists include Filipino writers,  Panelists include multi-awarded Filipino writers, including Palanca Awardees, and literature professors Dr. Joi Barrios-LeBlanc of the University of California-Berkeley, Dr. Michael Coroza of the Ateneo de Manila, and Dr. Rebecca-Añonuevo-Cunada, President of the Navotas Polytechnic College. The session will be moderated by Mr. Ferdinand Lopez of the University of Toronto.

  • Day 2: 25 April 2022, (Monday), 3:00 P.M. Jeddah time/ 8:00 P.M. Philippine Standard time

“The Literatures of Mindanao: An Introduction”, with Dr. Christine Godinez-Ortega of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology as Resource Speaker

“Writing Your Own Stories, with Ms. Cecilia Manguerra Brainard of the University of Southern California and the University of California (UCLA) as Resource Speaker.

  • Day 3: 26 April 2022 (Tuesday), 3:00 P.M. Jeddah time/ 8:00 P.M. Philippine Standard time

“SENSING: Ways of Seeing, Hearing, Feeling, Thinking, and Teaching Literature”, with Mr. Edward John Padilla of the University of Santo Tomas and Mr. Ferdinand Lopez of the University of Toronto as Resource Speakers.

Literature and creative writing teachers and students of Philippine schools in Jeddah and the Philippines are expected to attend the activities, while those who are interested to watch the webinars may do so via Jeddah PCG’s official Facebook page (PHLinJeddah) for the livestreaming of the webinars.

The National Literature Month is established by Presidential Proclamation 968, with the goal to promote, conserve and popularize the country’s historical and cultural heritage and resources, as well as artistic creations through literature. --END---
