Jeddah PCG recognizes Filipino women entrepreneurs
at the “2022 Marilag Awards”

Jeddah, 15 March 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office -Office of Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) in Jeddah recognized on Sunday, 13 March 2022, enterprising Filipino women entrepreneurs in Jeddah at the awarding ceremonies of the 2022 Marilag Awards held at Toshi Restaurant in Jeddah.

Out of the seven (7) nominees, the Marilag Awards- Women Entrepreneur Category was conferred to Ms. Ofelia Zabala Untalan, business owner of NWorld, a beauty and skincare company in Jeddah, which distributes skincare products all over Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and other parts of the Middle East. Ms. Untalan was a nurse before she set up her skincare business in Jeddah. Following the success of her company, she was able to open a beauty salon and a laundry shop in the United Arab Emirates.

Among this year’s Marilag Awards nominees are Ms. Mia M. Alejo, Ms. Reahbeln G. Alzate, Ms. Catherine O. Bertillo, Ms. Mofiedah R. Daknash, Ms. Norma A. Pedregosa, and Ms. Jesusa A. Sumayao.

In his message, Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian said that the recognition of Filipino women entrepreneurs through the Marilag Awards is a way of empowering women, who have time and again proven that they can excel in any field they wish to endeavor. “The Marilag Awards this March coincides with National Women’s Month, and through this activity, we hope that the whole world will work together towards gender equality and positive change in promoting women’s rights,” Consul General Auxilian added.

This year’s Marilag Awards has the theme “Parangal at Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Kababaihang Migranteng Manggagawa.” This year’s nominees are Filipino women who have introduced innovations in their respective businesses, which have also helped and inspired others, especially women, in the community. -END-
