Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian Meets Deputy Heads of Aseer Region’s 3 Significant Institutions

Jeddah, 21 January 2022 – Consul General Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met with deputy heads of three (3) important institutions of the Aseer Region: King Khalid University, the Abha Chamber of Commerce, and the Aseer Development Authority on Wednesday, 12 January 2022. Said meetings were organized by the Governor’s office (Emara) to showcase the regional government’s efforts to promote development in the region.

Consul General Auxilian met first with the Vice-Rector Saad Dajim of King Khalid University, Abha (KKU). The Vice-Rector mentioned that out of the roughly 2,000 foreign students enrolled at KKU, 52 are from the Philippines are all full scholars who are enrolled in linguistics, Arabic language, and engineering courses. He also expressed KKU’s intention in expanding the number of Filipino scholars in the near future, especially now that KKU is moving into its new campus, the largest ever in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Consul General Auxilian next met with the Vice-President of the Abha Chamber of Commerce (ACC), Mr. Mohammad Al-Qahtani. In the meeting, Vice-President Al-Qahtani highlighted the strong economic ties of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of the Philippines. He also mentioned that tourism is a good area of cooperation for the two countries to explore in the near future. Consul General Auxilian promised to link the Philippine Trade and Investments Representative in Jeddah, Mr. Bugshan Tendegaranao, with ACC for any possible product catalogue exchanges.

Consul General Auxilian then met with the Aseer Development Authority’s (ADA) Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amr Al-Amri. Consul General Auxilian and his delegation were briefed on ADA’s strategic plan on tourism that centers on two of Aseer’s strengths: environment and cultural heritage. The briefing proudly highlighted Aseer’s other development thrusts on arts and sports development, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability. END
