In her lecture, Dr. de Castro presented some facts in national hero and former Philippine President General Emilio Aguinaldo’s life using primary sources such as school records, autobiography, interviews. As no one has perhaps elicited more popular criticism and controversy than Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo among Filipino heroes, Dr. Castro’s lecture was aimed to call for a balanced, more nuanced assessment of Aguinaldo, who played an important role in the regaining of the Philippines of its independence from the Spaniards in 1898.

In her message, Jeddah PCG Consul and Acting Head of Post Mary Jennifer Dingal said that through the webinar series in commemoration of Philippine Independence, participants can gain more knowledge through which may be used not only in the  more objective, critical and affective teaching of History to Filipino students, but also in empowering the younger generation of Filipinos in Jeddah or wherever we may may go and instill in them the nationalistic ideals and love for country, and carry with them the Filipino pride and identity!
