“INCLUSIVE CELEBRATION OF FILIPINO FREEDOM” HIGHLIGHTED IN JEDDAH PCG INDEPENDENCE DAY WEBINAR
10 June 2021, Jeddah- The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah held on 9 June the first installment of its webinar series, which underscored the role of Filipinos in all parts of the Philippines in the fight for freedom from foreign colonization.
The webinar, which is part of the Consulate’s commemoration of the 123rd Declaration of Philippine Independence, had Filipino diplomat Ambassador (retired) Sahid S. Glang, who now teaches at Silliman University, as resource speaker.

In his lecture, AmbassadorGlangtackled another side in Philippine history when the Moro people of Mindanao and Sulusucceeded in retaining Filipino freedom by halting Spanish colonial incursions into their Mindanao homeland, making the Moros the offspring of anti-colonialism. AmbassadorGlang’s discourse showed that the fight against colonizers was a triumph not only by the revolutionaries of Luzon and Visayas, but by the freedom-fighting Moros of Mindanao—making the Philippine struggle towards achieving freedom an independent yet collective one.
In her message, Jeddah PCG Consul and Acting Head of Post Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the webinar series in commemoration of Philippine Independence hopes not only to open rich and wonderful realities in the country’s history that paved the way for the emancipation from colonial regime, but also reignite the nationalistic and patriotic spirit within the Filipinos which could serve as inspiration in promoting the country’s rich history and culture, whether in the Philippines or abroad.

The webinar was participated by teachers from the three (3) Philippine international schools in Jeddah, namely, the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ), Al Dura International School Jeddah (ADIS), and the Durat Al Sharq International School Jeddah (DASIS), and member teachers of the Philippine International School Teachers’ Association (PISTA) and representatives from the Filipino Club in Bahrain.
This year’s Independence Day celebration theme is “Diwa ng Kalayaan sa Pagkakaisa at Paghilom ng Bayan.”-END-
