JEDDAH PCG, POLO-JEDDAH HOLD WELLNESS ACTIVITY, DISTRIBUTE FOOD SUPPLIES TO OFWS IN CELEBRATION OF MIGRANT WORKERS’ DAY

8 June 2021, JEDDAH- The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)-Jeddah, celebrated on 7 June 2021 Migrant Workers’ Day with a wellness activity, a medical mission, and distribution of food packs to OFWS at the Saed and Huta Marine Camps.

Personnel from the POLO-Jeddah and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration went to the Saed and Huta Marine Camps and distributed sacks of rice and food packs to OFWs. In the afternoon, POLO-Jeddah held a wellness activity, which included Zumba exercises and a medical mission, for kababayans staying at the Consulate’s temporary shelter or the Bahay Kalinga. The wellness activities were in partnership with the Philippine Nurses Association-Jeddah and the Health Alliance Training Center under the leadership of Ms. Veronica Filipinas-Saha, and the OFW Cooperative Council. The Zumba exercises were led by OFWCC President Ms. Mauricia Garcia and Mr. Ricky Boy Cunanan.

At the program, Jeddah PCG Consul and Acting Head Mary Jennifer D. Dingal said that Filipino migrant workers or the OFWs have contributed not only for the betterment of the lives of their families in the Philippines, but also in fueling the country’s economy through their remittances. “The celebration of Migrant Workers’ Day is a recognition of their invaluable contribution to nation-building, as well as a tribute to their heroism as they have sacrificed their lives to provide a better life for their families,” Consul Dingal added.

POLO-Jeddah Acting Labor Attache (ALA) Herminigildo Daytoc said that Filipino migrant workers are amongst the best in whatever field they are in as they give their 100 per cent all in whatever work they do. “Our OFWs represent the Philippines wherever they go and their excellent work ethics are always admired by others. The activities we prepared for them is just our way of showing them that we are always by their side to protect and promote their welfare,” ALA Daytoc added.

The Migrant Workers’ Day celebration in Jeddah was spearheaded by POLO-Jeddah and has the theme “Salamat sa Tibay,Galing at Pagmamalasakit Mo, Kabayan!” -END-
