JEDDAH PCG COMMEMORATES NATIONAL FLAG DAY 

30 May 2021, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) commemorated today National Flag Day with a flag-raising activity at the Jeddah PCG grounds.

The program, which was participated by Consulate personnel, started with a parade of colors, showing the evolution of the Philippine flags since the Katipunan movement, when resolve by Filipinos to free the Philippines from the Spanish colonizers through massive and multiple armed struggles was strongly felt.

The parade of colors was followed by the Philippine flag-raising with the singing of the national anthem, the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas led by Vice-Consul Sheila Mae Briones, a lecture on the evolution of the Philippine flag by Vice-Consul Lemuel Lopez, an inspirational message by Consul and Acting Head of Post Mary Jennifer Dingal, and a closing message by Vice-Consul Alfred Kristoffer Guiang.

In her message, Jeddah PCG Acting Head Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the commemoration of National Flag Day is a reminder of the valor and heroism of Filipino heroes who sacrificed their lives and fought hard for the country to gain sovereignty and independence from Spanish colonizers.

Consul Dingal urged the personnel of the Consulate to emulate the early Filipino heroes who fought with courage and honor to free the country from the subjugation of colonizers. She reminded the personnel of their task of providing excellent public service to fellow Filipinos in Jeddah and the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to serve with integrity and genuine concern to kababayans who are working hard for their loved ones in the Philippines.

National Flag Day is celebrated every May 28 – June 12 in commemoration of the time when the Philippine flag was first unfurled after the Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated the Spanish fores in the Battle at Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898. -END-
