JEDDAH PCG HOLDS VARIOUS MEETINGS TO DISCUSS PREPARATIONS FOR THE GRAND CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL HERITAGE MONTH IN MAY
12 May 2021, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG), led by Consul and Acting Head of Post Mary Jennifer Dingal, had a series of meetings with various Filipino community (Filcom) organizations, Philippine schools in Jeddah, and Filipino artists to discuss plans for Jeddah PCG’s grand celebration of National Heritage Month this May.

Among the activities for Jeddah PCG’s grand National Heritage Month celebration include a series of concerts featuring Filipino folk songs, original Pilipino music (OPM), and band music, as well as folk and ethnic dances; a painting exhibition; and a Heritage Quiz Bee to be participated by students from different Philippine international schools in Jeddah. These activities are scheduled on 20-28 May 2021.
Acting Head of Post Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the celebration is a way of re-introducing to Filipino expatriates in Jeddah the rich and beautiful cultural heritage of the Philippines, which should be a source of pride and national identity. “We want our activities for the National Heritage Month be impactful and to make a mark in the minds and hearts of all Filipinos in Jeddah and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which will awaken their patriotism and Filipino pride,” Consul Dingal added.

The celebration of National Heritage Month started in 2003 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 439. This year, the celebration will be anchored on the theme “Victory and Humanity: Upholding Filipino Heritage and Identity” in solidarity with the commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan last April 27, as well as the 500th anniversary of the Philippines’ part in the first circumnavigation of the world. -END-
