JEDDDAH PCG TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL LITERATURE MONTH WITH POETRY WRITING CONTEST, LECTURE SERIES
20 April 2021, Jeddah – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah joins the whole Filipino community in celebrating National Literature Month or Buwan ng Panitikang Filipino with a series of activities to help deepen the Filipino community’s love for Philippine literature which has and continues to shape Philippine history and Filipino consciousness.
Among the activities lined up by the Consulate are a Poetry-Writing Contest for Teachers, which is a project in partnership with the Philippine International School Teachers’ Association (PISTA) and the OFW Cooperative Council, and a series of lectures on Philippine literature by Filipino literary titans Dr. Michael Coroza of the Ateneo de Manila University and Dr. Ferdinand Lopez of the University of Toronto in Canada.
This year’s theme, “Limandaang Taon ng Pagsulat sa Kalibutang Filipino” (500 Years of Writing the Filipino World) coincides with the quincentenary of the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines, and aims to highlight the undeniable part of the historic event in shaping the country and its people thus influencing art and culture, particularly the field of literary arts.
The celebration of National Literature Month is established by Presidential Proclamation 968, with the goal to promote, conserve and popularize the country’s historical and cultural heritage and resources, as well as artistic creations through literature. --END---
