Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah commemorates
124th Death Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal
JEDDAH, 30 December - In commemoration of the 124th anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal's martyrdom, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (JPCG), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held a simple program on 29 December at the Consulate’s Sentro Rizal. The activity was participated by select JPCG personnel, in compliance with the rules of the Saudi government in holding social gatherings in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rizal Day celebration started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by a floral offering to the bust of the national hero. The wreath-laying ceremony was led by JPCG officials. The program ensued with a reading of Rizal’s first poem entitled “Mi Primera Inspiracion,” by Ms. Estrellita Cuevas.
JPCG Acting Head Consul Mary Jennifer D. Dingal, in her inspirational message, urged the personnel to draw inspiration from Dr. Rizal in courageously overcoming challenges faced by the existing times, which at present is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting many parts of the world. Consul Dingal said that while the pandemic changed everyone’s usual routines, it should be an opportunity to rediscover other interests and activities that may lead to self and community improvement. “Rizal has shown resilience during trying moments in his life; we should also have the courage to face adversities that may come our way,” she added.
The program also included a song number by SSS Representative Mr. Michael Ingal and a dinner “salo-salo”. Theme of the this year’s Rizal Day celebration is “Jose Rizal: Inspirasyon sa Pagbangon at Paghilom ng Bayan.” –END-
