PCG Jeddah holds first Balitaan at Talakayan virtual dialogue with the Filipino community

Jeddah, 23 August 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held its first Balitaan at Talakayan, a series of virtual meetings-dialogues with the Filipino community in Jeddah and the Western Region on 20 August 2020 via Zoom/Facebook Live, with the theme, Recalibrating the Strong Partnership between the Philippine Consulate and the Filipino community under the New Normal.

The meeting-dialogue was attended by fifteen (15) Filipino community organizations, namely: Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. -North Western Region Chapter Saudi Arabia (IIEE-NWRCSA); Globetrotter- Center for Global Skills and Continuous Development; Kabalikat Civicom 2003 Scorpion Base Yanbu Chapter; Filipino Computer and Literacy Program (FILCOM); Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Incorporated Red Sea Chapter – Yanbu; Asian Chefs Society International (ACSI); Northern Samar International (NSI); iTEST Organization (Innovative Technical Enhancement & Skill Training; Shuseikan Aikido International; Association of Tennis Clubs, Jeddah - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (ASTEC); International Community Assistance Relief Effort (iCARE) Inc.; Filipino Community Yanbu Leaders (FILCOMYAN); United Ilocandia; Guardians Brotherhood Incorporated (GBI) Middle East (Western Region); GBHFI 1Ganap Guardians Arabian Falcons Chapter.

In his opening statement, Consul General Edgar B. Badajos underscored the need for the Consulate and Filipino community to adapt to the many changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, including use of digital platform to continue their collaboration in nation-building efforts.

Consulate officials gave updates on the upcoming economic and cultural activities of the Consulate for the remaining months of 2020, as well as the changes being implemented by the Consular and Assistance to Nationals Sections for clients under the new normal.

The Filipino community organizations, on the other hand, updated the Consulate and their fellow organizations about the projects and activities they have undertaken during the lockdown, particularly the assistance they have extended to fellow OFWs who were experiencing financial difficulties. They also presented their upcoming programs for the rest of the year.

Though the virtual meeting-dialogue, the Consulate hopes to find areas of common concern for probable joint projects with the Filipino community. (END)
