Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah to Launch
Digital Diplomacy Program

(Jeddah, 6 August 2020) - The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah is pleased to announce that it will soon be launching its “Digital Diplomacy Program” to adapt to, and embrace, life’s “new normal” in the age of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through digital diplomacy, which is also referred to as “digidiplomacy” and “eDiplomacy”, the Consulate hopes to carry out the third pillar of Philippine foreign policy, which is the protection and promotion of the welfare of Filipinos overseas, using internet-driven technology more than ever before. This move towards eDiplomacy will, therefore, see less of the pre-covid era’s reliance on large and frequent physical gatherings inside and outside the Consulate, and more of digitally-based programs and interactions between consular officials and members of the Filipino community. This is all in keeping with the new norms of social and physical distancing as safety protocols to guard against the further transmission of the COVID-19 virus in our community.

Attached is the timeline of the Digital Diplomacy Program and a tentative list of activities and projects that the Consulate General hopes to feature and/or accomplish before the end of the year.  The list is by no means exhaustive. Suggestions and recommendations from the community are welcome. END
