JEDDAH PCG HOLDS VIRTUAL COMMEMORATION OF THE 122ND ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE
JEDDAH, 17 June 2020–– The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) held a virtual celebration of the 122nd Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 2020. Jeddah PCG’s celebration paid a tribute to Filipino front-liners in this time of Covid-19 crisis as modern-day heroes in the vanguard of the battle against an invisible but deadly enemy.
Jeddah PCG’s celebration included a private and closed-door flag-raising ceremony on June 12, and a reading of the Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro Locsin, Jr. Messages to the Filipino community and front-liners were also read by the different offices and attached agencies of the Consulate.
In his message, Consul General Badajos recalled the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes whose fervent love for country helped the Philippines regain its independence 122 years ago. Such heroism and valor gave the liberty for the Philippines and its people to advance the nation’s interests as a free and sovereign nation. In the time of a new crisis and an ongoing war with a different kind of enemy which is Covid-19, Consul General Badajos called on the Filipino Community in Jeddah and the Western Region to unite and to set aside differences in order to collectively triumph in the fight against Covid-19. “Unity and support for Filipino front-liners who are putting their lives at risk at the helm of the Covid-19 pandemic is more important now than ever,” Consul General Badajos added.
Paying tribute the frontliners is in keeping with the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas” (Kalayaan 2020: Towards a Free, United, and Safe Nation–END-
