Jeddah PCG holds film appreciation night for Filipino students in Jeddah
Jeddah, 9 March 2020- The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) organized a film appreciation night for Filipino students in Jeddah on 26 February at the Consulate’s Community Library.
Said activity was in line with the Philippine celebration of National Arts Month in February, and was part of the three-day arts month celebration at Jeddah PCG.
The film appreciation night saw the screening of “Ano ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap”, a critically-acclaimed film by Jose Javier Reyes starring Ms. Rustica Carpio, Ryan Agoncillo, Jacky Lou Blanco and Bobby Andrews, among others. The film is about loyalty and old age, mortality and memories, and mirrors the inevitability of choices made in life at the expense of greater opportunities. The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the film’s producer, gave permission to Jeddah PCG to screen the film.
Before the film showing, Vice-Consul Alfred Kristoffer A. Guiang gave a short lecture on the history of Philippine cinema and the ideologies reflected in various art forms, including films. He also discussed different literary devices, symbolisms, and film techniques employed by directors and film makers that make cinema an artistic reflection of life.
At the end of the film screening, students were given the opportunity to share their inputs and give their critique of the film, which elicited long and animated discussions. Students and teachers said that the film’s open ending aroused their imagination and gave room for them to invent an ending based on the “clues” provided in the film.
The Art Appreciation Night was participated in by students and teachers from various Philippine schools in Jeddah, including the Al Dura International School, Durat Al Sharq International School, and the International Philippine School in Jeddah. ---END---
