Jeddah PCG caps Coordinatorship of the Asian Consuls General Club with Indonesian fim screening
Jeddah, 09 March 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah capped its Coordinatorship of the Asian Consuls General Club (ACGC) with the screening of an Indonesian film on March 5 at the Indonesian Consul General’s residence.
The Indonesian film “Ketika Cinta Bertasbih” (“Where Love Resides”) is a coming-of-age story of a college student who supports his family in Indonesia while striving to finish his studies in Egypt. It was shown to members of the diplomatic corps and Saudi guests during the Closing Ceremony of the Asian Film Festival 2020.
Consul General Edgar Badajos, as Coordinator of the Club for 2019-2020, commended the hard work of ACGC members for making the Club’s activities such as the Asian Film Festival and Asian Food Festival very successful. He noted that “the film festival was successful not only in terms of being very well attended, but also, and more importantly, because of the significant mileage it has gained for us as far as promoting greater awareness and understanding of our cultures is concerned.”
“Although film is basically an art form, it has also proven to be an effective cultural medium or a means through which we can see and gain a better appreciation and understanding of some unique aspects of cultures different from ours,” he added.
Indonesian Consul General Eko Hartono praised the Philippine Consulate for diligently steering the Club and leading in the preparations for its major activities that led to the activities’ unprecedented success.
The Asian Film Festival 2020 is a month-long activity by the Club and saw the screening of five (5) films, namely “Andhadhun” of India, “Suatu Ketika” of Malaysia, “Sonata” of the Philippines, “Motorcycle Girl” of Pakistan, and “Ketika Cinta Bertasbih” of Indonesia.
The Asian Food Festival 2020 held on 2 March at the Jeddah PCG grounds featured cuisines from nine (9) Asian countries. Both Asian Food and Asian Film Festival are activities of the ACGC which aim to promote greater awareness and understanding of the members’ respective cultures among the Saudi community and other foreign audiences.
The ACGC, conceived in 2005, is a grouping of 13 Asian Consulates General in Jeddah, including Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
