Jeddah PCG joins Mini-Olympics of Filipino community in Jeddah
Jeddah, 16 December 2019 – On December 13, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah joined the 4th Mini-Olympics of the Filipino community in Jeddah organized by the OFW Council of Leaders (OCL), an umbrella group of various Filipino Community Organizations in Jeddah and the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Mini-Olympics featured various sports activities participated in by teams from different Filipino community organizations in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia. A medical mission was also held for OFWs where free medical consultations were provided by volunteer health institutions in Jeddah.
Consul General Edgar Badajos commended the efforts of OCL for initiating activities that promote goodwill and camaraderie among the Filipino community in Jeddah. He urged the Filipino community to remain united and to continue supporting each other in facing the challenges of living overseas.
The coronation of the Mrs. OFW was also held in the evening of the same day, where Consul General Badajos commended the organizers and the contestants for promoting Philippine tourism and culture with their ethno-linguistic-themed attire at the opening of the competition. “Activities such as the Mrs. OFW, in a way, help in the Philippines’ cultural diplomacy initiatives by incorporating aspects of Filipino culture in the beauty pageants,” he added.
