Jeddah, 05 December 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah reported its accomplishments to the Filipino community in the western region of Saudi Arabia in its Second State of Post Address (SOPA) held at the Consulate grounds on 05 December 2019. With the other officials of the Consulate and the attached services seated behind him, Consul General Edgar B. Badajos read the report, which enumerated the Consulate’s accomplishments in various departments, namely, Consular Section, Assistance-To-Nationals Section, and Political, Economic, and Diplomacy Section. He prefaced the report by noting that it would have been impossible for the Consulate to realize these accomplishments without the full support and cooperation of the Filipino community. He said that the Filipino community’s unwavering support helped ensure the success of the Consulate General’s programs, projects, and other activities aimed at advancing the Three (3) Pillars of Philippine Foreign Policy.

The Consulate General’s accomplishments for 2019 include, among many others, its being conferred the Best Organization Award for the Foreign Service Category during the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) Foundation Day in June. Consul General Badajos also reported that the number of Consular Mobile Services (CMS) rose to 16 from 11 last year, thereby enabling the Consulate to reach more Filipinos in far-flung areas of the western region. He also cited the increase in the number of distressed Filipinos who were provided welfare financial assistance from the DFA’s Assistance-to-Nationals and Legal Assistance Funds, and the continued delivery of legal services to OFWs with legal concerns. He happily noted that the Consulate was able to reduce the death penalty imposed in 3 out 5 death penalty cases to just blood money and imprisonment. He likewise noted significant improvements in the Consulate’s facilities, including the installation of a vending machine at the public waiting area and the establishment of a new community library.

Towards the end of the report, the Consulate awarded certificates of appreciation to individuals and organizations who stood out in providing support and assistance to the Consulate’s various community projects and activities. Consul General Badajos also led the Filipino community in taking a mass oath-taking to end violence against women.END
