Press Release No. EBB-114-2019
Jeddah PCG receives book donations from Filipino institutions and individuals, in time for its formal inauguration on December 5
Jeddah, 2 December 2019 – Following the soft launch of the Jeddah PCG Library on October 1, and after announcing its book campaign project called “Bitbit Kong Libro Para sa Konsulado” or the “PROJECT BIBO AKO”, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah received an overwhelming number of book donations from the Filipino community in Jeddah.
The first to donate books was the Supreme Student Council of the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ), the oldest Philippine international school in the world, which handed over more than 200 books to the library. Next were several members of the Filipino community in Jeddah, including Mr. Venecio Legaspi, Mr. Romeo Capili, Mr. Redentor Bual, Mr. Manuel Decena Jr., Mr. Gherwin Sundungan, Ms. Rubyrose Unarce, Mr. Mar Par, Jr., Ms. Evangelica Sumanga, and a donor who requested anonymity.
Consul General Edgar B. Badajos thanked the donors for their generosity. “Their contribution will definitely make the Jeddah PCG Library a beacon of learning and a center for scholarship among Filipinos in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia” he said. Consul General Badajos also noted that the collaborative efforts of the Consulate and the Filipino Community is yet another positive demonstration that the bayanihan spirit is alive in the Filipino community. The names of all book donors will be inscribed for posterity in a “Book of Fame.”
The Jeddah PCG Community Library will be formally inaugurated on 5 December 2019, during the Consulate’s 2nd State of Post Address (SOPA). –END—
