Led by Consul Mary Jennifer D. Dingal, the Consulate’s Gender and Development Focal Officer, the pledging ceremony highlighted the need for collective action to promote and protect the rights of women.
In his brief remarks, Consul General Edgar urged PCG Personnel, who wore orange t-shirts in solidarity with the advocates involved in the campaign and as a sign of hope and optimism, to champion women’s rights and practice being GAD Advocates in their daily work as civil servants. “What is important is to take action and to educate everyone that women have rights that need to be respected. Culture and religion should not be used to justify violence against women,” Consul General Badajos added while at the same underscoring the importance of going beyond words and taking action to end violence against women.
After the remarks of Consul General Badajos, all personnel were invited to take part in The Orange Wall: An Orange Your Icon Project and place their handprints and sign their names on the board to signify their support for the campaign.
