Jeddah PCG calls for unity in opening of Sports Festival
Jeddah, 19 November 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah called for unity during the opening of the OFW Council of Leaders (OCL) Mini-Olympics at the Giant Court in Jeddah on 15 November 2019.
During the opening ceremony, Vice-Consul Alfred Kristoffer Guiang commended the OCL for initiating activities that promote goodwill and camaraderie among the Filipino community in Jeddah. He urged the Filipino community in attendance at the event to set aside differences and unite as one strong Filipino community.
The officials from the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah including Labor Attache Nasser Munder and Social Welfare Attache Anna Oidem also attended the event. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, who was on official business in Jeddah, likewise joined the festivities. Admin Cacdac congratulated the Filipino community for being active in community building. He acknowledged the vital role of sports-- such as basketball which is a Filipino favorite sport-- in strengthening camaraderie among Filipinos.
The opening ceremony of the OCL Mini-Olympics signals the start of the month-long sports tournament involving various Filipino community organizations in Jeddah.
OCL, an umbrella group of various Filipino Community Organizations in Jeddah and the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was founded on July 7, 2015. Currently with more than 60 member Filipino organizations, it aims to unite other Filipino organizations and support each other’s activities, projects and programs. Mr. Venecio V. Legaspi is its Director General for the period of 2019-2021. – END—
