Jeddah PCG celebrates United Nations Day

Jeddah, 23 October 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah (Jeddah PCG) celebrated on 23 October United Nations (UN) Day. Jeddah PCG personnel were all dressed in the national costumes of UN member states all throughout the day, while providing services to clients. The UN flag was also prominently displayed at the personnel’s respective work stations.

Acting Head of Post Consul Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the celebration aims to strengthen public awareness on UN, an international organization which has helped advance the well-being of the peoples and maintain peace and security around the world.

The Philippines was among the signatories of the 1942 UN Declaration, and is one of the 51 original member states. The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, with the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 24 October, the anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations, as which "shall be devoted to making known to the people of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations and to gaining their support for" its work. In 1971, the UNGA adopted a resolution (United Nations Resolution 2782) declaring that United Nations Day shall be an international observance or international holiday.  -- END –
