Jeddah PCG soft-launches its new library

Jeddah, 2 October 2019 – In its effort to promote love for reading among Filipinos in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah soft-launched on 1 October its new library.

With officials and students from various Philippine academic institutions as guests, the soft launch marks the countdown towards 5 December 2019 when the Jeddah PCG Library will be inaugurated and formally opened to the public.

Consul General Edgar B. Badajos said that with the Jeddah PCG Library, the Filipino community in the Kingdom can have access to books and other reading materials that would enhance their minds and widen their imagination. “Through reading, we will be able to fight off ignorance and be more informed of relevant social issues around the world. Reading will be able to transport us to various worlds and experiences, contributing to our intellectual and personal development,” Consul General Badajos added.

During the program, Ms. Farrah Jasmine Dingal awed the audience with a spoken word poetry performance, while select students from the Al Dura International School gave an artistic chorale reading presentation that centered on the beauty and wonders of reading.

Various projects of the library were announced to the guests. Among the library’s forthcoming projects are the “Bitbit Kong Libro Para sa Konsulado” or the “PROJECT BIBO AKO”, where OFWs will be encouraged to bring a book for the library everytime they go on vacation in the Philippines or elsewhere; the Library Scavenger Hunt for Kids to take place by the end of the year; and the Library’s grand inauguration on 5 December 2019, among others.

The Jeddah PCG Library is envisioned to have a wide collection of books and reading materials that may be accessed by the Filipino community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in their quest for intellectual development. The Jeddah PCG Library may also serve as a venue for academic activities such as fora, lectures, seminars, and conferences. ---END---
