JEDDAH PCG UNVEILS POCKET GUIDE

FOR OFWs

Jeddah, 13 September 2019In line with efforts of the  Philippine government to make it easier for OFWs to reach the right officials or agencies for assistance in case of emergency and to keep themselves always updated on important developments back home and in the host country, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah on 13 September unveiled an OFW Pocket Guide.  Consul General Edgar Badajos said that “the Pocket Guide contains basic information to ensure that every OFW who finds himself or herself in an emergency situation would know right away what to do and whom to contact for assistance.”  The Pocket Guide also encourages OFWs to register at the Consulate or any other Philippine Foreign Mission nearest to them to ensure that they can be easily located and reached by consular officials for any contingency.

Reduced to a mere 2-by-1-and-a-half inches in size when folded, the Pocket Guide was designed so that it can be easily kept inside and retrieved from one’s pocket, wallet or other personal belonging in case of need.  The Pocket Guide contains the hotline numbers of the Philippine Labor Attaché for labor concerns, the Consulate’s Assistance-to-Nationals Section for police cases and cases of maltreatment, and Pag-IBIG, SSS, OWWA, and the Office of the Social Welfare Attaché for concerns falling under these agencies’ purview.  One section of the Pocket Guide instructs the OFW to supply his contact details and contact persons in Saudi Arabia, take a picture of the section, and send it at once to his or her emergency contact person for future reference.

The Consulate developed the Pocket Guide in collaboration with a member of the Filipino community in Jeddah, Mr. Osmund B. Corpuz. END
