JEDDAH PCG HOLDS ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF 121st PROCLAMATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE
12 June 2019 – Dressed in their best Filipiniana attire, officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah led by Consul General Edgar Badajos on June 12 gathered together at the Consulate grounds to commemorate the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme: “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan”.
The program started with the traditional raising of the Philippine colors, followed by the reading of Independence Day messages of the President, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Labor, and the executive officers of Pag-IBIG and the Social Security System
After reading the message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Consul General observed that “the freedom gained by the Philippines in 1898 is a continuing process as the Philippines is still oppressed by many social ills, including poverty and deep-rooted social inequality.” He extolled the bravery and heroism of Filipino Overseas Workers as they fight the loneliness of family separation in their quest to provide for their families back in the Philippines.
The formal ceremony was followed by a number of musical numbers participated in by Jeddah PCG personnel and their family members. The young members of the audience were treated to traditional Filipino parlor games like Pukpok-Palayok and Pabitin.
The program ended with a shared traditional Filipino food for lunch. END
