Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah Commemorates Labor Day with a Seminar on the Services of Attached Agencies
Jeddah, 1 May 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah through the Philippine Office of the Labor Officer (POLO) commemorated Labor Day by holding a seminar to raise awareness of the various programs and services offered by Pag-IBIG, OWWA, and DSWD for Overseas Filipino Workers and their families. Participants in the said seminar included members of the various Filipino community organizations in Jeddah and other parts of the western region of Saudi Arabia.
Consul General Edgar Badajos and Labor Attache Atty. Nasser Munder formally opened the seminar by reading the Labor Day messages of President Rodrigo Duterte and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello, respectively.
After the reading the President’s message, Consul General Badajos commended POLO for hosting the seminar to encourage OFWs to avail themselves of the various services offered by Pag-IBIG OWWA, and DSWD. He noted that while these programs have been around for some time, there is still a good number of Overseas Filipinos who are either not aware of them or have not availed themselves of such services despite the obvious benefits. He told those who attended the seminar that “the various programs offered by these agencies are actually good of way of protecting yourselves and your families against contingencies and when you return to the Philippines for good.”
The seminar proper was heartily welcomed by the participants as it made them more aware of government programs they never knew existed and are available for OFWs and their families. END
