PCG Teaches Female OFWs the Art of Self Defense
Jeddah, 20 April 2019 - Overseas, in the workplace, many female OFWs are subjected to threats of, or actual, physical abuse. This is especially a recurring problem among the ranks of female OFWs who work as in-house Household Service Workers in Saudi Arabia.
In view of this reality, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah has begun a project to teach female OFWs, specifically the female wards at the Bahay Kalinga, the art of self-defense.
“With the basic self-defense techniques they will learn, it is our hope that next time they go abroad, they would be in a better position to protect themselves from physical harm,” said Consul General Edgar Badajos who presided over the project’s launching.
The Consulate launched the project as part of its year-long Gender and Development Program with the support of Mr. Jefrey Sales Estrada, founder of Jefrey Sales Estrada Karatedo International (JSEKI SHOTOKAN), and Ms. Norma Awitin Pedregosa, founder of NAP Awitin Shotokan Karate International (NAPSKI) in Jeddah.
